18 July 1914

100 years ago today: The King is inspecting the naval fleet tomorrow and on Monday and the Telegraph correspondent describes the “utter majesty of this seascape of Britain’s battle power” and visitors have been arriving by excursion train all day and filling the hotels. There have been labour strikes and riots in St Petersburg and four men have been shot and seriously wounded.  The second reading of the Amending Bill is due to take place on Monday. There are reports that several classes of reservists have been called up in Servia, leading it to be on “half its war footing”.
