21 July 1914

100 years ago today: an unexpected development on the Ulster crisis.  The King has summoned representatives of British and Irish political parties to a conference at Buckingham Palace in order to discuss outstanding concerns regarding the future of Irish government and the first meeting of the eight members of this conference, presided over by the Speaker, would take place today.  The second reading of the Amending Bill has not taken place.  There is further description regarding the King’s inspection of the “vast armada” assembled in the Solent at Portsmouth and the acknowledgment that further expansion of the navy is necessary.
